The READ Center

A not-for-profit volunteer adult literacy program for adults 18 and older, serving the greater Richmond area, including Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico, and Richmond City. Trained volunteer tutors work with adult learners to meet their individual literacy goals.

Reading and Education for Adult Development, Inc.

Mission Statement:
The mission of The READ Center is to help low-level reading adults develop basic reading and communication skills through one-to-one tutoring so they can fulfill their goals and their roles as citizens, workers, and family members.

What is literacy?
The READ Center uses the following definition of literacy from The National Adult Literacy Survey of 1993: “Using printed and written information to function in society, to achieve one’s goals, and to develop one’s knowledge and potential.”
